Bauchi court orders remand of Sheikh Idris Abdul’aziz Dutsen Tanshi

A Magistrate’s Court in Bauchi has remanded Sheikh Idris Abdul’aziz Dutsen Tanshi in prison .

This followed his arraignment by the Bauchi State Police Command based on a petition filed against him by Fityanul Islam which accused him of incitement and disrespecting the Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

The cleric’s lawyer Barrister Umar Hassan confirmed that his client Sheikh Idris Abdul’aziz was remanded by the court, even as he said that they have applied for bail, which the court will decide today.

He said when the accusation was read to Sheikh Idris Abdul’aziz, he denied the charge.

The lawyer said the police arraigned Dutsen after he honoured their invitation.

The Bauchi State Sharia Commission had earlier called off a planned debate with the cleric over the controversy generated by his remark.

Meanwhile, the students and followers of the cleric, in a statement signed by Mal Yau Idris, have warned against staging any protest over the arraignment of their teacher.
