Bandits kill 9 in Katsina

Bandits Thursday night attacked villages in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, killing nine people.

Residents said the attack on Matseri village came after a similar raid Wednesday on a nearby Unguwar Sarki village in which 12 people were killed.

Villagers who escaped Thursday’s attack said the armed bandits shot their way into about five communities around 11pm, forcing male residents to flee into the bush.

“The attackers took away 70 cows and 200 sheep from our village,” an elderly farmer who gave his name as Abdulmumini Unguwar Hayaki told Dateline Nigeria.

The bandits also stole food from silos and robbed housewives who could not flee of their phones and other valuables.

Residents said the villages were riddled with emtpy cases of ammunitions fired by the attackers.

Communities in Katsina State have come under series of attacks from armed gunmen camping in its vast Rugu forest that stretches into neighbouring Zamfara State.
