Banditry: Zamfara gov suspends, investigates Zurmi emir

Zamfara State Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle has approved the suspension of Emir of Zurmi Alh. Atiku Abubakar Muhammad.

According to a statement by the acting Secretary to the State Government Kabiru Balarabe, Alh. Bello Suleiman (Bunun Kanwa) is to take charge of affairs of the emirate immediately.

The governor has also approved the constitution of a committee to investigate allegations made against the suspended Emir, on his involvement in the escalating rate of banditry attacks in the Emirate.

The committee, chaired by Mal. Ibrahim Wakkala Muhd, former Deputy Governor, has Mukhtar Ahmad Anka, former Deputy Governor; Hon. Faruku Musa Dosara, Zamfara State House Leader; Retired DIG Mamman Tsafe, Special Adviser Security; and Hon. Yusuf Abubakar Zugu, Special Adviser Chieftaincy Affairs as members.

Other members of the committee are Representatives of the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), while Musa Liman Shinkafi, Permanent Secretary, Security & Home Affairs, will serve as Secretary.

The committee is given three (3) weeks to complete its assignment and submit report.
