Again, gunmen attack passengers on Kaduna-Abuja expressway

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers Wednesday evening blocked a portion of the Kaduna-Abuja expressway, shooting at passengers.

A driver, conveying passengers from Kano to Abuja, told Dateline Nigeria that the attack happened around 7pm near a village called Audu Jangwam, one of the dangerous points along the highway.

He said the attackers fired at vehicles, reportedly injuring a number of passengers.

A luxury bus, he said, was fired upon by the gunmen but its driver managed to drive it out of the danger zone with all the passengers.

“When we arrived the scene, we met a maroon coloured Peugeot 806 vehicle with nobody inside. We suspected that the occupants in the vehicle fled into the bush on sighting the attackers, to escape being kidnapped,” he said.

The driver, who regularly plies the road, said it is always risky driving to Abuja from Kaduna after 7pm. “That is when they operate,” he said.

Neither the Kaduna State Police Command nor the state government was available for comment up to the time of filing this report.
