ABU denies shielding fake certificates’ syndicate, sending fake certificates to NYSC

The management of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria has denied shielding fake certificate syndicate or sending fake certificates to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The ABU management was reacting to a news item “ABU Management Shields Fake Certificates Syndicate, Sends False Records to NYSC” by SaharaReporters, which it described as “one-sided”.

Director of Public Affairs, ABU, Malam Auwalu Umar said the story is “a follow-up to an earlier one-sided story the online media first published a month ago that a syndicate in the University had been issuing fake degree certificates to fraudulent students, an allegation that the Institution had since dismissed as untrue.

“The University has further appointed a high-powered committee consisting of Senate members to thoroughly investigate the allegation. The committee is expected to complete its assignment soon.

“The University reiterates that the person (Shafa’atu Abdullahi UISPY2014) purported to have been issued a certificate is actually a withdrawn student.

“It should be noted that Ahmadu Bello University does not ignore such a weighty
allegation in line with ensuring that its very high reputation and the highly respected
integrity of its certificates are protected.

“The Institution’s Career Office, a unit responsible for students’ mobilisation for the NYSC scheme, has confirmed that Shafa’atu Abdullahi was not mobilised for the one-year mandatory National Youth Service as claimed by the online media.

“The University is of the belief that the running story is in bad taste, as no attempt
was made by the media to contact the Institution for its own comments before going to press.”
