5-year-old girl stolen in Kano

A five-year-old girl, Hanifa Abubakar, has been stolen in Kawaji area of Kano on Saturday.

She was whisked away in the evening while returning from Islamiyya school by unknown persons who came in a commercial tricycle, Daily Nigerian reported.

The girl’s uncle, Suraj Zubair said the distance between the Islamiyya school and Hanifa’s family residence is short, so children normally trek to the school in group on their own.

“According the account of some children who witnessed the incident, the kidnappers came in a tricycle and offered to hitchhike them to their home. After dropping them off, they then asked Hanifa to enter again for an extra ride, and then zoomed off with her.

“I want to use this medium to call on those who have any useful information about the whereabouts of Hanifa to contact the nearest police station or call this number: 08032668195.”

Yusuf Nasiru is still missing one year after

Kawaji area in Nassarawa Local Government is one of the neighbourhoods with high child kidnapping incidence in Kano.

In the same neighbourhood, 9-year-old Yusuf Nasiru was abducted on December 28, 2020 after returning from afternoon Islamic school.

Dateline Nigeria reports that a Kano State High Court in July this year sentenced one Paul Onwe to 104 years in jail over kidnapping of children.

Owne was sentenced after pleading guilty to 38 count charge bordering on kidnapping and selling of children.

The convict was arraigned before the court alongside five other defendants who pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Owne was arrested in 2019, trying to take a boy he had kidnapped from Yankaba quarters out of the state.

His arrest led to the recovery of nine children he had sold in Anambra State and the arrest of his wife and four other alleged accomplices.

Dateline Nigeria, in a special report, had reported how over 100 parents whose children were also kidnapped were battling ailments, leading to death of some of them.

A committee that was set up by the Kano State government after Paul was arrested, discovered that about 108 children had been kidnapped by child kidanpping syndicates operating in the state.

Efforts are still on to recover more children that were stolen and taken out of the state.
