72 Regular Course cadets take oath at NDA

A total of 541 cadets of the 72nd Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), including one Allied Cadet from the Democratic Republic of Congo, have sworn to the Oath of Allegiance, formally committing themselves to military and academic training at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and to all laws and regulations binding cadets and members of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The Oath Taking Ceremony which held Thursday at NDA Parade Ground, Afaka, officially marks the commencement of training for the cadets of 72 Regular Course at the Academy and opens them up to a 4-year training, for Navy and Airforce cadets, and a 5 year training period, for Army cadets at NDA.

Speaking after the Oath Taking Ceremony, the Guest of Honour, Cadets Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Yakubu Yahaya, reminded the cadets that the exercise has now made them liable to both military and civil laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and those of the Democratic Republic of Congo, for the Allied Cadet.

Brigadier General Yahaya encouraged the cadets to imbibe self-discipline, smart turnout, honesty, loyalty and other positive virtues throughout the course of their military and academic training, as well as while carrying out other duties.

He further urged them to shun bad company, truancy, absenteeism and other vices that may hinder their progress at the Academy and afterwards.

Highlights of the event include parade by the cadets and signing of the Cadets Dossier by representatives of the four cadets’ Battalions.
