37 UniAbuja students win FG scholarships

No fewer than 37 students of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) have been awarded scholarships by the federal government to assist them in the payment of school fees.

The students cut across various departments including Business Administration, English, Geography, Medicine, Electrical Engineering, Sociology, Economics, Veterinary Medicine, Public Administration, and Theatre Arts.

Presenting the students to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, in his office on Monday 25th January 2021, a staff of the Ministry of Education through which the scholarship was administered, Mrs Akoh Pauline, said various sums of money between N200, 000 and N250, 000 would be disbursed to the winners.

She said, “Out of several thousands of students who wrote the examinations in 2020, these students are among those who came out successful. We need to let students know that this scholarship is real.

Undergraduate students who are successful will take N250, 000, Master’s degree students take N300, 000, while PhD students take N380, 000. For you to win this scholarship, you must register and write exams and pass,” Pauline said.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, while praising the students for their hard work and success, said they had done the University proud.

He said, “We are very delighted and proud of you. This is a well-deserved recognition. You have performed well. I must say that the great UofA of Nigeria is very proud of you. We shall continue to encourage you to achieve excellence in the pursuit of your various endeavours.

“I want you to know that aside from this federal scholarship, there are others that you could apply for. We shall make them available to you so that you can try your luck.

“This University, through the University Research Council, is also giving out grants for research. If you continue to work hard, you will find that there is a lot of opportunity out there for you to excel.”

The Dean, Students Affairs, Dr Abubakar Umar Kari, said the administration of Professor Abdul-Rasheed N’Allah was doing its best to assist outstanding students to secure scholarships from individuals and organizations, among others.

Babatunde Samuel, who spoke on behalf of the beneficiaries of the scholarship, thanked the federal government, Vice-Chancellor and the lecturers for their support.
