Twenty-two people killed by bandits have been buried in Tungar Kwana, Talatar Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Many residents were forced to abandon the community while others are receiving treatment in hospital.
The bandits circled the community around 11pm on Tuesday and spent about two hours shooting at anyone in sight.
A witness told the BBC Hausa that they were seated in front of their house when they started hearing sounds of gunshots, forcing them to take refuge in near bush.
He among those killed were his two children and the Chief Imam of the village Alhaji Ladan.
The spokesman for the Zamfara State Police Command Mohammed Shehu confirmed the incident saying 22 people were killed.
He said they couldn’t respond in time because they were only notified after tge gunmen had disappeared.
