2023: APC not courting Jonathan, says Buni

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not courting former President Goodluck Jonathan to run in 2023 election, the party’s Caretaker chairman and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has said.

He was responding to reports in the media that some APC governors are working to convince the former president to run so that the Presidency will return to the North after four years.

Buni dismissed the report as baseless.

“There is nothing like courting Jonathan at the moment. May be those spreading it are scared,” he told the BBC Hausa service.

“Even if someone is trying to use the birthday visit to Jonathan as basis for that, we only went to him as a former president. It had nothing to do with politics,” he added.

Buni said since Jonathan has not declared any intention to run again it would not have been possible to court him. As politicians we attend each others event, to celebrate or sympathise. The visit to Jonathan drew attention because he is a former president.”
