- as police parade eight suspects over six rape cases in five days
The Katsina State Police Command has paraded a 38-year-old vice principal at a community secondary school in Kadandani, Rimi Local Government Area of the state, Ibrahim Saleh, who impregnated a 12-year-old pupil.
The pupil, name withheld, could not give birth because of her age, but was delivered of her baby through caeserian section after carrying her pregnancy for eight months.
Parading the suspect before journalists at the headquarters of the Katsina State Police Command, the Public Relations Officer SP Gambo Isah said Saleh, who is married with three wives, repeatedly had unlawful carnal knowledge of the 12-year-old girl in his apartment at the community.
“He lured a young girl of about 12-year-old and serially had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without the knowledge of the parents to the state that he even impregnated her.
“Anytime she comes to school, he will take her away to his own house and this man is married with three wives. What is he looking for in a young girl of 12 years? Right now, we don’t know how the girl will feed the baby.
“In fact, right now that I am speaking to you, this young girl had delivered a baby after Caesarean Section (CS) at the General Hospital Katsina in which investigation is ongoing,” Isah said.
The vice principal told journalists that “I do pay her N200, N300 and sometimes N500 before she agreed to have sexual intercourse with me. She gave birth to baby boy on Sunday.”
According to the police spokesman, a total of eight suspects were arrested by the command between January 9 and 14, 2021, in connection to six reported cases of rape in the state.
Other suspects paraded by the Katsina police are: Auwal Hamzat and Sulaiman Abubakar who were alleged to have engaged in anal sex with three boys who were children of their neighbours.
The neighbours reported the incident to the police, leading to their arrest.
Ishiaku Sani, 25, was also paraded for allegedly having anal sex with the six-year-old son of his neighbour, one Saada Abdullahi, who reported the incident to the police on January 10, 2021.
Another suspect paraded for rape is a 61-year-old man, Lawan Sani, who allegedly raped a six-year-old girl. The case was reported by the girl’s mother, Magajiya Shuaibu.
Jamilu Salisu was also arrested in Funtua over alleged rape of a five-year-old girl, after a report by the child’s mother Sadiya Hayatu.
The police spokesman called on parents to be vigilant, adding that the command was collaborating with government, traditional institutions, religious leaders, trade unions, civil society organizations to rid the state of rape.
