10 passengers abducted from NSTA bus regain freedom

Ten out of the passengers abducted from a Niger State Transport Authority (NSTA) bus have regained freed, the state government said on Tuesday.

About 20 passengers and the driver were kidnapped by gunmen on their way to Minna, the Niger State capital, from Rijau.

The Niger State Transport Commissioner Rahmatu Mohammed Yar’adua had said in a statement on Sunday the passengers were attacked by kidnappers at Kundu before Zungeru.

“Majority of the passengers, including the driver and conductor, were kidnapped leaving four passengers who have since been transported safely to their homes. No life was lost.

“Security agencies have already been notified and a team of security operatives has been dispatched to the location for rescue operation.

“Furthermore, incident report was lodged at the Police Headquaters with a view of giving full details to the police for further action.

“While we fervently pray for the safety of the victims, all hands are on deck to explore all avenues in ensuring the safe return of the victims,” the statement had said.
